In celebration of the 125th birthday of San Rafael High School, the annual SRHS Homecoming Parade (Friday, October 4th at 5:45) will have the theme "Decades" honoring the 12+ decades of educating the citizens of San Rafael.

“The parade will begin at San Rafael City Hall, continue down Fourth Street and end at the High School parking lot. The SRHS Class of 1959 will be featured in the parade, as will current students from several San Rafael City Schools. A parade of vintage cars will add to the festivities! Alumni are invited to San Rafael Joe's at 931 Fourth Street (6:30-10:30) for a No-Host Bar gathering of "Dawgs". On Saturday, October 5th, all alums are invited to a picnic on the SRHS campus from 11:00 - 3:00. Student performances will provide entertainment and school tours offered.”

Green Halloween Costume Swap

“Bring a costume, get a costume: Come by the Marin Country Mart Farmers’ Market on October 5th to trade in your gently used costume and swap it for a new one.”

 

Sharktoberfest at the Sanctuary

1 p.m., Farallon Island and Gulf of Farallon National Marine Sanctuary Visitor Center, 991 Marine Drive, The Presidio, San Francisco, 94129 

“Celebrate the Annual Return of White Sharks to the Gulf of the Farallones. Free admission and many special programs.”

 

Bay Area Pet Fair & Adoptathon

7 p.m., Marin Center, San Rafael 

Note: this event is also on Sunday, Oct. 6

“The Bay Area Pet Fair and Adoptathon will have more than a thousand puppies, dogs, kittens, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, roosters and more available for adoption. There will be more adoptable pets at this event than anywhere ever in the Bay Area. It’s also free.”

Marin Symphony: National Young Composers Challenge Composium
 

2 p.m., Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium, San Rafael

It's informative, dramatic, and entirely thrilling — exciting to experience as a participant or as an audience member. Witness an amazing afternoon of excitement, drama, and music. You’ll hear the winning compositions by America’s best young composers rehearsed, discussed by Maestro Christopher Wilkins, and performed by Conductor Alasdair Neale.”
