San Rafael Firefighters Snuff Out Suspicious Early Morning Fire at Office Building

The fire burned the outside of an three-story office building around 2:30 a.m. on Monday.

 

San Rafael firefighters halted the spread of a fast-moving fire early Monday at an Irwin Street office wood-sided building near the Third Street Highway 101 underpass.

The firefighters responded to the exterior fire, at 851 Irwin Street, around 2:30 a.m., according to San Rafael Fire Chief Chris Gray.

The fire crews extinguished the blaze before it reached inside the three-story building, Gray said in an e-mail to Patch. It caused an estimated $25,000 in damage.

No one was hurt during the incident. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Gray said.

“The cause of the fire is suspicious in nature,” Gray said. “Construction activity is underway at the building and materials were temporarily being stored in a service area that was the site of the fire’s origin.”
