A marine biologist, shark conservationist and ocean voyager, David McGuire is the founder of the non profit Shark Stewards. Based in San Francisco CA, Shark Stewards is dedicated to conserving the San Francisco Bay and world oceans by protecting sharks and other impacted marine life. As a sailing captain, dive master and filmmaker, David has explored the world ocean on numerous expeditions producing media with an emphasis on sharks and ocean awareness. He holds a masters degree in Environmental Health and has worked in education and public health at the University of California at Berkeley and is an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco. David is the writer, producer and underwater cinematographer of award winning documentaries on sharks, marine protected areas and other marine wildlife programming. Combining science with documentary work, his films range from reefs to rainforests, the title of a feature which won him an Emmy award.

As a Research Associate with the California Academy of Sciences, David conducts a shark research and education program. As documentarian and diver, he conducts expeditions with Academy scientists communicating the wonder of ocean life and our need to protect them. David is a published author and sits on several boards of non-profits including The Green Film Festival and the Cordell Bank Marine Sanctuary Association.

Through science expeditions, advocacy and video production, Shark Stewards is exploring and explaining our ocean world, influencing policies and practices from sustainable fishing to marine protection.
