Frozen T-shirt races, decorate-a-bra contests and wild wigs added a laugh track to the small camp at College of Marin's Kentfield campus where the San Rafael Relay for Life marchers took the fight to cancer.
The Relay set up a course with an international theme behind the baseball diamond at College of Marin. Whether in French, Italian, Spanish or English, the message was always the same at every tent: take the pledge against cancer.
As the sun went down, the luminaria were set out along the course. The candles inside the decorated paper bags added a warm, comforting feeling to a cool night. Determined volunteers walked around the short circuit in turns for 24 hours, from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday.
The group raised nearly $14,000 and the Relay for Life is still accepting donations.
