2010 Woofstock at The Marin Humane Society

The Paws that refreshes.

Last Sunday afternoon, pooches and parents partied at 2010 Woofstock, a dog friendly music festival fundraiser held by the Marin Humane Society in Novato. Director of communications Carrie Harrington was more than pleased at the turnout of  canines and their 400-plus humans.  Paws up to her committee who worked like dogs (sorry) to organize vendors, food, live auction, raffle, and, in the style of Woodstock, music, of course.

Most of the  guests had someone furry, cute and lively at the end of a leash and all chilled on the lawn grooving to Big Bang Beat, Third Rock and Zydeco Flames. Brian Cooley of Mill Valley  walked away - on two legs - with the much coveted guitar signed by Paul McCartney.

Tiamo, a sheltie, has been helping Jeanine Rossi, of San Rafael, recover from a stroke. Fourteen-year-old Juliet Sandell, who attends Terra Linda High is a new intern with the humane society and brought Maggie, her West Highland white terrier. Festive in red, Sheri Benedict of San Rafael was tangled up with Django and Sofie, both of whom are rescue dogs. She had a third leash in her hand for Tripper.  Larry Carson who is in charge of the humane society's Pen Pals Program enjoyed the afternoon with Rudy, a rottweiler basset mix, and Brandy, a French bulldog.

Eleven-year-old golden retriever Pepper represented the Animal Wellness Center in San Rafael where he comes several times a week for physical therapy.  He loves it so much, he practically bounds out of the car and into the water tank.  Pepper also excels on the treadmill.

Appropriate sign of the day, spotted on a red volkswagen bus, "Paws for Peace."
