Mayor Boro: One Term Too Long?

Just 4 years ago a different legacy would have been written...

Mayor Al Boro has much to be proud of during his 20 years of service, but nothing just recently.  Recently little noteworthy in San Rafael has occurred other than stuff that he likely wants to forget.  What might they be?

  • Downtown is overrun with nail saloons, massage studios, homelessness with many empty storefronts.  Rare are stories of new businesses coming to SR that will build up over time, other than Big Boxes.  Alive after 5 is a wounded idea and downtown is at risk.
  • Gangs pretty much having free reign to move about in the Canal and other neighborhoods.  Collateral damage with citizens who are potentially victims can be the outcome.
  • Unfunded pensions/Unfunded medical benefits eating up the city due to irresponsible decisions by our past elected officials.  Now, employees fired and services cut.  It will only get worse, too.
  • Running his City Council meetings, he shows no patience for the public and often treats the public like cattle, with disrespect.  He also appears to disrespect certain Council colleagues who question his iron-fisted autocratic rules.
  • The Mayor was an early supporter of the SMART train.  As a long time proponent of the train, now the train appears bankrupt financially and as a concept.
  • SR Infrastructure—curbs, gutters, sidewalks, streets continue to spiral downward into various states of disrepair.

IMAGINE, what the legacy might have been just 4 short years ago. Too bad, he deserves better after 20 years of public service to San Rafael.
