"Soulcycler" Author to Speak at Marin Center

Presentation set for Friday in San Rafael.

Writer, photographer and adventurer Rick Gunn will deliver a 90-minute presentation on "Soulcycler, Words And Images From a 25,811-Mile Bicycle Journey Around-The-World" at 7 p.m. Friday at the Marin  Center Showcase Theater.

"Soulcycler" combines 350 photographs from 33 countries. It is set to music and accompanied by stories from around the globe.

In 2005, after 14 years as a photojournalist for a daily newspaper, Gunn, 46, a South Lake Tahoe resident,  decided to pursue a dream and rode nearly 26,000 miles, through 33 countries, taking more than three years to complete his journey. The route took him across the United States, Europe, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tibet, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.

During the course of his trip, Gunn wore out three bikes, 15 sets of tires, five seats, five pairs of cycling shoes, five pairs of cycling shorts, two cameras, five lenses, five Ipods, 21 sets of headphones, and an array of other gear.

The show will include an opening presentation by the Marin County Bicycle Coalition. The coalition has worked  to improve the county's road and path facilities for walkers and bikers since 1998.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com or at the door.
