San Rafael Pacifics Name Mike Marshall as Manager

Pacifics also announce hires for Pitching Coach, Assistant GM

The announced today that they have hired Mike Marshall, a former Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star and longtime minor league manager and executive, to be the first manager in the new baseball team's history.

The team also announced they have hired former San Francisco Giants pitcher Mike LaCoss as the team's pitching coach, and Marshall's wife, Mary Marshall, was named assistant general manager.

“I am honored to be named the first manager of the San Rafael Pacifics,” Mike Marshall said in a press release. “I would like to thank Mike Shapiro, Brian Clark and the entire Pacifics organization for the opportunity. Mary and I look forward to helping bring a winning team to the fans and community in San Rafael, and sharing that team with the fans.”

Marshall, 51, has already had a long and successful career both on and off the field. As a player, he won two World Series championships with the Dodgers ('81 and '88) and averaged .270 with 148 homers and 530 RBIs in 11 big-league seasons with the Dodgers, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and California Angels. He has also served as the president and GM of the Chico Outlaws where he led them to a league championship in 2010.

Pitching coach Mike LaCoss, who pitched for the San Francisco Giants from '86-'91, is a 14-year major league veteran. After his retirement, he served in varying capacities such as scouting supervisor and pitching coordinator for the Cincinatti Reds, pitching coach for the Montreal Expos Single-A affiliate team, and as an associate scout with the Dodgers.

Assistant general manager Mary Marshall comes to the team after serving in the same position for the Chico Outlaws for the last two years. Mary gained her experience working in the Dodgers' publicity office, as a minor-league manager, and as director of media relations for the Northern League and Arizona Winter League.

A press conference is set for Friday at 10 AM at the Four Points Sheraton with Pacifics' President and General Manager Mike Shapiro and CEO of Centerfield Partners Brian Clark who will formally introduce Mike and Mary Marshall.
