Bottom Line: Irvington could not control Camarillo and Shaw, and San Rafael's defense performed well, not giving up a score until the midway through the fourth quarter.

Led by a balanced of offense and a defense that forced two key fumbles, the San Rafael High football team raced past Irvington 34-7 to stay undefeated through three weeks of the season.

With the victory, the Bullldogs have already surpassed last season's win total of two, giving them some momentum as league plays looms.

"This is a definite confidence boost," head coach Amil Hall said. "Our defense looked outrageous and improved on where they were last week."

While running back Diego Camarillo and quarterback Parker Shaw jump-started the offense early, it was the defense that controlled the game's tempo.

Led by linebackers Joe Gettler, Sterling Reed and Dan LanFranco, the San Rafael defense stopped Irvington on fourth-down attempts on its first two possessions, and also forced a fumble in the first half.

The Bulldogs offense struck quickly on their first possession, rattling off a fuve-play, 62-yard drive, capped by Camarillo's first of four touchdowns, this one coming from five yards out.

The key play was the offense's first, when Shaw connected with Camarillo out of the backfield on a 37-yard strike.

"He runs tough," Shaw said of Camarillo, "and definitely sets up our passing game."

The second half brought more of the same for San Rafael.

After building a 26-0 lead with four minutes, 46 seconds to play in the third quarter, the Bulldogs forced a quick three-and-out, and Shaw and the passing game went back to work.

The senior hit Camarillo for a 19-yard pick up, rushed for seven more, then hooked up with wide receiver Dan LanFranco on a 28-yard pass. Two plays later, Shaw found LanFranco again for a 26-yard scoring play, and after a two-point conversion, the Bulldogs were well on their way with a 34-0 lead.

LanFranco finished with five catches for 104 yards and the score, to go along with 27 yards on the ground.

His brother, Dave LanFranco, also had a productive night, picking up 68 hard-earned yards of total offense, on only four touches.

The win gives the Bulldogs a head of steam with one more non-league game before Marin County Athletic League play begins.

Shaw's hoping for special things in his final season.

"This year I want to turn it around," he said. "I'm just trying to stay focused, and do what I can to help the team win."
