Vallecito Welcomes New Principal

Educator Tracy Smith moves from a San Anselmo school to the Dixie School District.

Cheers and applause greeted elementary school principal Tracy Smith when it was announced that she will be leaving her post at San Anselmo’s Brookside Upper Campus in favor of .

“I’m thrilled,” Smith said, who will moving to her new position in July. “This is just a great opportunity.”

With more than 17 years combined experience as a teacher and a principal in Marin County, Smith said leaving Brookside is bittersweet. The community has been congratulatory at her success and sad at her departure, she said.

Smith previously worked in the Ross Valley School District, where she spent four years as Brookside’s principal following a stint as a principal in the San Rafael City School District. 

Attendees of the Dixie School District Board June 14 meeting made sure to show their support and excitement for her move, with more than one board member expressing excitement for the upcoming year with her.

“We’re very, very happy, you being here,” Superintendent Thomas Lohwasser told Smith at the meeting.

She lives with her husband, two daughters, a dog and three rabbits in San Rafael.
