Terra Linda High Almost Makes the Top 100 Statewide in Latest U.S. News & World Report Survey

Redwood is highest-ranking Marin school at 32nd in California, with Tam High and Drake High School also in the top 100; Tomales and Terra Linda also make the list.

Three Marin high schools are among the Top 100 Best High Schools in California for 2012, as announced Tuesday by US News and World Report magazine in its annual Best High Schools rankings.

Redwood High in Larkspur fared the best among Marin high schools, ranking 32nd in California and 199th nationally. Tamalpais High was next at 44th in the state and 273rd nationally, with Sir Francis Drake High garnering 61st in the state and 344th nationally.

Tomales High in West Marin ranked 129th in the state and 668th nationally, while Terra Linda High ranked 140th in California and 729th nationally.

A three-step process determines the Best High Schools. The first two steps ensured that the schools serve all of their students well, using performance on state proficiency tests as the benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.
