Marin CHP Cite Two For Speeding to Prom

Marin CHP issued a crackdown on Friday and Saturday nights because of prom.

California Highway Patrol officers in Marin County issued two speeding tickets to teenagers running late for prom, but no other drug or alcohol violations involving prom-goers were made over the weekend, officials said.

The Marin CHP issued a crackdown for Friday and Saturday nights on teen drug, alcohol and license violations because of prom events at Redwood High School in Larkspur and San Rafael High School.

Officers noticed a large number of limousines and small rental buses in the area, but it was two cars that were stopped for speeding.

An 18-year-old dressed in a tuxedo was running late to pick up his date when an officer stopped his Toyota Camry and cited him for speeding on Point San Pedro Road east of Mooring Road at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Marin CHP.

At about 4:50 p.m., an officer stopped an Infiniti G35 in the same area driven by an 18-year-old who was also running late to prom. The teen was given a citation for speeding and released.

The Marin CHP also issued several speeding tickets that were not related to prom-goers.
