Book Signing: Mount Tamalpais and the Marin Municipal Water District

Local author and Marin Municipal Water District Director Jack Gibson will present a new book, “Mount Tamalpais and the Marin Municipal Water District” at a special event on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Marin History Museum’s Boyd Gate House in San Rafael (1125 B Street).

The pictorial history (from the mid 1800s through today) tells the story of the formation of the Marin Municipal Water District in 1912 and includes dozens of archived photos that have not been previously available. The book also explains the founders' commitment to the preservation of Mt. Tamalpais and how that idea was central to their vision for the new district. The book was written to commemorate MMWD's 100th anniversary.

Gibson, a member of MMWD’s board of directors since 1995, is a practicing Marin County attorney as well as an avid historian and a former history teacher. In working on the book, he spent countless hours sifting through photos and documents in MMWD’s extensive archives.

This event is a part of the Marin History Museum's Author Spotlight Series, which features local Marin historical authors. The event will include a wine and cheese reception, presentation by the author and book signings. There also will be time for questions.

The suggested donation for the event is $5-10, which will benefit the museum’s public programs. Part of the proceeds from sales of the books will benefit a fund to protect the watershed.
