SR ACT: DUI enforcement is a year round priority

San Rafael Alcohol Compliance Team (SR ACT) with Marin County Health and Human Services created drink coasters for local bars and establishments. The DUI enforcement awareness campaign with bar coasters kicked off on January 26. The coasters advise adult customers to call a sober driver or cab if they are too intoxicated to drive home. The coasters were distributed in popular San Rafael bars and restaurants:

Pint Size Lounge

Mayflower

Villa Inn

SR ACT DUI Strike Team in Action

January 10, 2014: 17 traffic stops and 1 Field Sobriety Test. This enforcement activity resulted in 1 DUI arrest and 1 arrest for driving on a suspended license, which was originally suspended due a DUI.  The SR ACT team also arrested 1 person for driving with a controlled substance, which was a baby bottle filled with Codeine cough syrup—a rising new fad.

January 16, 2014: 13 traffic stops and 2 Field Sobriety Tests. This enforcement activity resulted in 1 DUI arrest, 1 warrant arrest, 2 citations for not driving with a valid license, and 1 citation for driving without a valid license.

January 26, 2014: 15 traffic stops and 5 Field Sobriety Tests. SR ACT made one arrest for a vehicle pursuit, methamphetamine, paraphernalia and possession of illegal ammunition. They also arrested an individual for possession of a methamphetamine pipe and methamphetamine, and gave two citations to persons who did not have a driver’s license. Fortunately, no DUI citations were given.

The San Rafael Alcohol Compliance Team (ACT) has been created through a partnership with the San Rafael Police Department and the Marin County Department of Health & Human Services to reduce underage and excessive drinking in youth ages 12 – 25.
