SR ACT resolves to continue promoting a safe community for San Rafael

San Rafael ACT is a product of a partnership between the San Rafael Police Department and Marin Health and Human Services. A 2014 resolution for SR ACT is to continue to prevent underage alcohol use and other alcohol related concerns such as motor vehicle accidents in Marin County. One way we are doing this is by hosting different enforcement activities throughout the year. Activities include bar checks for service to minors and over-service of alcohol to adults and minor decoy operations in local retail establishments to help prevent the sale of alcohol to underage youth. Establishments that do not sell to minors are given letters of recognition for being responsible community members.

The good news is that the enforcement activities are working!  Retailers, business owners, and community members are more aware of these issues and the laws that help protect them. Below is just an example of some of the great work we are doing.

On December 21, 2013, SR ACT held party patrols and bar compliance checks. No underage drinking parties were discovered or cited. However, three youth were cited for possessing alcohol as well as a fake ID and one minor was cited for stealing alcohol from a local store. SR ACT also completed seven compliance checks at bars and each of those bars, located in downtown San Rafael, was found to be responsible merchants.

Overall, our community experienced a safe holiday season. San Rafael ACT would like to thank all of you for ringing in 2014 responsibly! Remember, serving and celebrating responsibly doesn't stop after the holiday season, but is a year-round commitment to you, our youth, and our community! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
