Urgent Meeting to Protect the SMART Pathway

Support Transportation Funding for SMART Train and Pathway.

On Thursday, June 23rd, the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) will be making its final decision to help close the final funding gap for SMART that will allow the initial operating segment of the train and pathway project from San Rafael to Santa Rosa to go forward.

The meeting will take place on June 23rd at 7:00 PM at the Board of Supervisor's chambers (3rd floor) at the Marin Civic Center.
SMART has already found ways to close $101 million of the $109 million funding gap.  The Transportation Authority of Marin is being asked to contribute $8 million, bringing the total to $109 million, allowing SMART to move toward construction!

MCBC supports this funding allocation from TAM but is requesting that building the Marin portion of the SMART pathway be one of the conditions for TAM giving the $8 million to SMART.

At the June 13th TAM Executive Committee meeting, several board members discussed MCBC's request and directed staff to develop language to protect the SMART pathway. MCBC  supports the use of bike/ped funds (that are part of this $8 million) but wants an assurance that SMART Measure Q pathway funds are used for the pathway (and nothing else).

Our elected representatives on the TAM Board need to know that Marin County residents support the SMART train and pathway.  We need to let them know that we support green, sustainable transportation for Marin and Sonoma Counties and that they should support the SMART train and the SMART pathway.

Please RSVP to kim@marinbike.org if you can attend this critical June 23rd meeting.
