Homelessness and Mental Illness in Marin County

The topic of this month’s Marin Mental Health Board meeting will be Homelessness and Mental Illness in Marin County.  The meeting will take place April 25th from 7 – 9 p.m.  at New Beginnings ( 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway , Novato).  The public is invited.

Speakers will include Bobbe Rockoff, Chief Analyst, Department of Health and Human Services on the recent Point in Time Homeless County; Mary Kay Sweeney, Director of Homeward Bound of Marin, on that organization’s housing and re-housing efforts; and Rev. Paul Gaffney, of Marin Interfaith Street Chaplaincy.   

This panel of speakers will give varying perspectives on issues surrounding homelessness and mental illness in Marin.

The key questions the panel plans to address are:

  • What are the results from the most recent homeless count?
  • How is progress going on the County’s 10 year strategic plan to end homelessness?
  • What programs, systems, and/or strategies are showing promise for effectively addressing the issues of homelessness, especially among Marin’s mental ill populations?  Challenges?
  • What role, if any, should the Mental Health Board play in advancing solutions to prevent homelessness among Marin’s mentally ill population?
