Conversation with Dr. Quentin Young, “grandfather” of the universal single-payer health care movement in America

There will be a conversation moderated by radio host Peter B. Collins with local legislators and  Dr. Quentin Young, lifelong universal healthcare advocate and national coordinator for Physicians for a National Health Program (Medicare for All). Chicago-based Dr. Young, 88, organized doctors for civil rights workers in the South, treated Martin Luther King, and is a friend of President Barak Obama. He will talk about health care as a human right and the need for single-payer legislation as embodied in California's S.B. 810 (Leno). Dr. Young is part of the growing single-payer movement that seeks to replace profit-based insurance, which now determines prices and benefits, with a publicly financed, privately delivered system that streamlines administration and cuts costs through price negotiation and bulk purchase of drugs to achieve the kind of universal health care that residents of all other industrial countries enjoy. Event sponsored by Health Care for All-Marin and Physicians for a National Health Program-CA.
