Efforts to Recall Supervisor Susan Adams Fail

While there won't be a recall election for Marin County Supervisor Susan Adams, her critics have called their efforts a success.

A group of San Rafael residents couldn’t collect enough signatures to recall Marin County Supervisor Susan Adams, but they nevertheless are pleased with the results of their efforts, according to a report in the Marin Independent Journal.

The group had to collect more than 6,000 signatures by Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. to hold a recall election this fall. A recall petition wasn’t filed by the deadline, according to the IJ.

Leaders of the group said earlier this year that they did not feel well represented by Adams, who oversees District 1, which covers the greater San Rafael area including most of the downtown business district and central San Rafael neighborhoods, but excluding Gerstle Park and the Canal.

Alissa Chacko, spokesperson for the group, told Patch in May that many of the group are concerned about local land-use issues, including the controversial Plan Bay Area and affordable housing allocations proposed for northern San Rafael.

Adams had told Patch that taxpayers needed to “think twice” about holding an expensive recall election when her seat is already slated to be on the ballot in 2014. She plans to run for re-election next year.

In an e-mail to the IJ, Chacko said during the recall campaign they had educated many residents and watched planned development areas in northern San Rafael be removed.
