Woman Lies about 2010 Sexual Assault

A woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted in Munson Park in August 2010 admitted she fabricated the story, detectives say.

San Rafael detectives found that that she was sexually assaulted in Munson Park in August 2010 were not true.

The woman said she was walking home from work through the park on Manuel T. Freitas Parkway at Hyacinth Way at about 10:30 p.m. on a Sunday when a man approached her from behind with a knife. She said the man forced her to the ground and assaulted her before fleeing the scene.

During the investigation, detectives found inconsistencies in her statement.

"Physical evidence located at the scene and injuries sustained did not match the statement provided by the victim," Sgt. Jim Correa said in a statement.

The woman admitted to fabricating the story after the officers confronted her.
