Trial Date Set for ex-Officer on Firearms Charges

An off-duty San Rafael police officer who pulled a gun on a man in Petaluma will face a jury trail beginning Nov. 14.

A trial date for Michael Augustus, the former San Rafael police officer facing firearms charges in Sonoma County, has been set for Monday, November 14.

At a hearing this morning in Santa Rosa, assistant district attorney Tashawn Sanders, attorney Christopher Shea and presiding judge the Hon. Dana Beernick Simonds agreed on the date to begin jury selection.

The charges stem from an incident in Petaluma on New Year’s Eve, 2010,  when the 16-year veteran of the and was arrested Dec. 31 after he yelled an obscenity at a man and outside of .

Although Augustus was off-duty at the time after an internal investigation. He has said that he would try to get his job back.
