Thursday DUI Checkpoint Planned for Lincoln and Grand

San Rafael police will be on the hunt for impaired drivers as part of a crackdown on drunken driving.

A driver’s license and DUI checkpoint will be held at Lincoln and Grand avenues on Sept. 1, as part of a nationwide crackdown on impaired driving.

Beginning last week,  sobriety and driver’s license checkpoints and several DUI saturation patrols are planned for a two-week span all over Marin County as part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

“All too often, innocent, law-abiding people suffer tragic consequences and the loss of loved ones due to this careless disregard for human life,” Interim Chief Jeff Franzini said. “Our message is simple and unwavering: if we find you driving impaired, we will arrest you.”

The checkpoint on Thursday will begin at 6 p.m. At the last checkpoint, which was held on Red Hill Avenue heading into San Anselmo, for an outstanding warrant involving illegally possessing dangerous weapons.

Marin County will be joining 10,000 other law enforcement agencies throughout the United States in support of the crackdown.
