Three Cars Consumed in Santa Venetia Garage Blaze

Local firefighters received reports of a garage fire on Estancia Way at 1:44 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters contained a garage fire that consumed three vehicles at a residence in Santa Venetia early this morning, according to a battalion chief.

San Rafael firefighters received the initial report of a fire at 759 Estancia Way at approximately 1:44 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Jeff Buscher.

Firefighters found a fully involved garage fire upon arrival at the residence. The garage was detached from the single family home and its roof collapsed by the time help arrived, according San Rafael Fire Chief Chris Gray.

"Fortunately the resident was alerted by a smoke detector and was able to evacuate his family from the burning structure," he said.

The fire spread to the attic, but did not progress further. Within ten minutes of responding to the residence, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control, Buscher said.

No one was injured in the fire, and the residents have been cared for and are staying at a safe location, Gray said. No loss estimate was immediately available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
