Suspected Sexual Assault at Park Under Investigation

Woman walking home late Sunday reported being attacked at Munson Park.

San Rafael Police are investigating a possible sexual assault after a woman claimed she had been attacked Sunday at Munson Park in Terra Linda.

The woman said she was walking home from work through the park on Manuel T. Freitas Parkway at Hyacinth Way at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when a man approached her from behind with a knife.

She said the man forced her to the ground and assaulted her before fleeing the scene. The woman went home and called police. She was taken to a hospital where she was treated for injuries she suffered during the attack.

Investigators searched the area for additional evidence during daylight on Monday. They also went door-to-door in the neighborhood to try to locate witnesses.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, 6-feet tall and 250 pounds.  He has a goatee and thick lips, police said.
