Sexual Assault Suspect to Enter A Plea Wednesday

Arrested after rape at Irwin Street business.

A 33-year-old Marin City man is scheduled to appear in Marin County Superior Court Wednesday to enter a plea on rape charges.

The suspect, Leroy Anthony Clark, was arrested by San Rafael Police on Friday after an 18-year-old victim reported the sexual assault at about 11 p.m. Thursday. She said she had gone to an auto detail shop on Irwin Street and was there alone when she was attacked, said Margo Rohrbacher, spokeswoman for San Rafael Police.

The victim gave officers a description of the suspect, who had fled the area, and then identified him during an investigation procedure.

Detectives determined that the suspect was a sex offender who had a previous sexual assault conviction.  Officers worked through the night collecting evidence and attempting to locate the suspect.  Several leads were followed in San Rafael and southern Marin and neighboring jurisdictions were notified, Rohrbacher said.

The suspect was located by Marin County Sheriff deputies near Civic Center Drive Friday.
