Marin County search and rescue volunteers used a tracking dog to find a missing 85-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease on Thursday, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
The sheriff's office was notified at 6:40 p.m. Thursday that the woman walked away from her residence in the area of Whittier Avenue in Santa Venetia and had not returned, Lt. Jamie Scardina said.
The woman was missing for an hour and an immediate search was unsuccessful, Scardina said.
The search volunteers and the tracking dog were called to the scene and found the woman in an isolated field in the Santa Venetia area four hours after she went missing, Scardina said.
The woman had become disoriented and tired and decided to lie down, Scardina said.
She was treated by medical personnel and returned home.
