San Rafael Woman Struck, Killed by Pickup Truck in Modesto

Laurin O'Callaghan was struck by a pickup as she crossed the road early Thursday, according to the California Highway patrol.

A 30-year-old San Rafael woman was hit by a pickup truck and killed in Modesto early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s office today identified the victim of a fatal accident at Dakota and Blue Gum avenue as Laurin O'Callaghan, 30, of San Rafael.

According to the CHP, 22-year-old Felix Figueroa III of Modesto was driving a 1989 Ford pickup north on Dakota at 45 to 50 mph at around 5:40 a.m. when O'Callaghan apparently walked directly in front of the truck.

Amidst dark conditions, Figueroa was unable to stop in time to avoid O'Callaghan, and struck O'Callaghan, who was thrown to the ground.
