A passing vehicle struck and injured a San Rafael woman as she stepped out of her parked car in Kentfield on Monday evening, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Moira Buxbaum was exiting her 2009 BMW, which was parked on the western edge of Los Cerros Drive, just south of Almenar Drive, when a southbound 1993 Volvo swerved to the right and hit Buxbaum and her car just before 6 p.m., CHP Officer Sean Poore said.

The collision sent the 56-year-old woman onto the hood of the Volvo and severely injured her right foot, he said. She was taken to Marin General Hospital for treatment.
