Updated: San Rafael Teen Arrested in Connection with January Gang Shootings

A 17-year-old boy was arrested during a countywide gang sweep yesterday.

Bail has been set at $1 million for a 17-year-old San Rafael boy arrested Thursday in connection with a outside the Safeway store in Novato, police said.

said obtained a warrant for the arrest and distributed it to Marin County law enforcement officers who have been focusing on anti-gang operations.  The boy was seen in the 800 block of Third Street in downtown San Rafael and did not resist arrest, according to Novato police Sgt. Keith Heiden.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall with a bail of $1 million, police said.

Two men were shot in the parking lot of the on Jan. 3, and investigators immediately announced that they believed it was gang-related. The shooting victims, a 23-year-old man from Daly City and a 27-year-old man from San Rafael, sustained serious injuries.

One suspect, 22-year-old, was arrested only 36 minutes after the shooting at her home in the San Marin neighborhood of Novato. Coyle was taken into custody when her car was found on San Andreas Drive, about seven miles from the Safeway store.

Coyle, a medical assistant, was jailed on two felony counts of suspicion of attempted murder and two felony counts of participating in a criminal street gang. Police have said they believe she was the driver who helped the shooting suspects flee the scene.

On Feb. 13, police arrested the man described as the key suspect, , on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, participation in a criminal street gang and the use of false citizenship documents.  He was apprehended at an apartment complex in Rohnert Park.
