San Rafael Promotes New Battalion Chief

A large gathering of family, friends, co-workers and officials were on hand to support Chief Windrem.

With pride and a strong sense of public service, San Rafael Fire Chief Christopher Gray promoted Fire Captain/Paramedic Matt Windrem to the position of Battalion Chief of the San Rafael Fire Department during a Badge Pinning and Swearing-In Ceremony conducted at the San Rafael Fire Station 51, 1039 C St., San Rafael, CA.

A large gathering of family, friends, co-workers and officials were on hand to support Chief Windrem.

Matt Windrem, a 13-year veteran with the City of San Rafael, has been assigned as the Fire Battalion Chief/Paramedic on “C” Platoon commencing April 5, 2014.

Chief Windrem served as a firefighter and paramedic before joining San Rafael in 2001. Matt is a certified Fire Officer and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with an emphasis in Public Administration from Sonoma State. He also holds Associates Degrees in both Fire Technology and Emergency Medical Care from Santa Rosa Junior College. Chief Windrem has been involved in a diverse range of projects and special services, including grants that have benefited the department and community. Matt also served the Firefighter’s Association and coordinates the MDA Fill-the-Boot fundraiser among other volunteer activities. Matt is married to Amy and they have a son, Ben.

Congratulations to Chief Windrem as he accepts the challenge and opportunity to help and serve the needs of San Rafael, Larkspur, Marinwood and Marin County Services Areas 13 and 19. We are very proud of Matt’s accomplishment and we look forward to his continued outstanding public service as a new Fire Battalion Chief.
