Police are seeking witnesses
to a San Rafael collision that left a pedestrian dead this morning.
The accident was reported at 9:43 a.m. near a farmer’s market at the intersection of Peter Behr Drive and Civic Center Drive, San Rafael Police Department spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.
The pedestrian was identified as Jurgen Traub, 79 of Nevada City (Nevada County).
A quarter mile section of Civic Center Drive was shut down until about 3:00 p.m.
Traub was hit by a plumber’s van driven by a 38-year-old Napa resident, Rohrbacher said.
The driver stopped immediately and has cooperated with investigators, Rohrbacher said.
Marin County sheriff’s deputies who happened to be on the scene administered first aid until paramedics arrived.
Traub was pronounced dead at the scene, Rohrbacher said.
Traub is a former Greenbrae resident. He was in the area visiting friends, Rohrbacher said.
“We talked to witnesses but there are probably more people who saw the accident who we have not spoken to,” Rohrbacher said.
Anyone with who witnessed this accident and has not yet spoken to authorities is asked to call the San Rafael Police Department at (415) 485-3000.
