San Rafael Police Investigate Inmate's Death

Inmate Anthony Carmignani was taken to Kaiser Terra Linda Hospital in San Rafael where he was pronounced dead on Saturday.

An inmate who was found unresponsive in his on Saturday has been identified by the Sonoma County coroner's office as 27-year-old Anthony Carmignani, of Alameda.

Carmignani was found unconscious in his cell at 12:02 p.m. Saturday, Marin County sheriff's Lt. Barry Heying said.

He was taken to Kaiser Terra Linda Hospital in San Rafael where he
was pronounced dead at 12:44 p.m., Heying said.

Carmignani had been arrested by Novato police and booked into the jail Friday on suspicion of vandalism, resisting arrest and a parole violation, San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

Toxicology tests and further investigation will determine his cause of death, a coroner's office spokeswoman said.
