San Rafael Police Interrupt Rape in Progress

San Rafael officers arrested two men on suspicion of attempting to rape a woman outside her apartment.

San Rafael police officers arrested two San Rafael men on suspicion of attempting to rape a woman outside her apartment on Fairfax Street Sunday morning.

Cristobal Alvarado, 27, and Alex Maldonado, 21, were booked in Marin County Jail on charges of attempted rape, false imprisonment and sexual battery.

At approximately 5:40 a.m. July 31, San Rafael police received reports of a woman screaming for help near 60 Fairfax St. The victim was walking to her car, parked a few blocks from her home, when Alvarado and Maldonado allegedly forced her to the ground, threatened her life and attempted to pull her pants down, according to authorities.

The suspects were interrupted when San Rafael police officers arrived. They fled in opposite directions, but were apprehended. 

The victim sustained scrapes and bruises as a result of the attack, according to the .

Alvarado and Maldonado’s bail is set at $100,000.
