San Rafael police arrested eight people over the weekend who furnished alcohol to minors.

An undercover sting operation was conducted on Saturday in the downtown and Canal neighborhoods of San Rafael, where a decoy asked adults to purchase alcohol for them, police said.

The underage minor, under the supervision of an officer, stood outside a liquor or convenience store and asked for alcohol from the adult, police said.

If the adult agreed to purchase the alcohol, the officer arrested and cited them. The citation comes with a minimum fine of $1,000 and 24 hours of community service, according to police.

Eight people were arrested during the operation. The operation is conducted to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors, police said.
