San Rafael, Marinwood Announce New 'Shared Services Agreement' to Maximize Firefighting Resources

"Sharing services between San Rafael and Marinwood fire agencies provides more efficient and effective services," San Rafael fire officials said.

The following is a news release from the San Rafael Fire Department:

The City of San Rafael and Marinwood Community Services District have further enhanced their long standing Fire related Shared Services Agreement to now include additional benefits for both communities.

The enhanced agreement that was approved earlier this month improves fire and paramedic response capability and also allows firefighters from both agencies to voluntarily fill temporary vacancies as they occur and work together.

The operational enhancements build upon those in place since 1973, that include Marinwoods Fire Engine responding into San Rafael and Marinwood receiving support from San Rafael with Fire Engines, Aerial Ladder Trucks, Paramedics and a Battalion Chief as well as 9-1-1 dispatch and training assistance.

New enhancements will now provide for sending the closest response unit to emergencies regardless of boundaries and assistance to support Paramedic staffing on the Marinwood Engine. Other benefits include a provision to loan a Fire Engine to Marinwood if requested and support with Paramedic equipment and supplies.

Sharing services between San Rafael and Marinwood fire agencies provides more efficient and effective services. It’s another move that makes sense and places the needs of the community first with high quality sustainable public safety services that leverage the resources of both agencies.

San Rafael Mayor Gary Phillips and Marinwood Board President Bill Hansell, were joined by other officials and personnel to recognize the enhanced agreement at a joint celebration on April 21, 2014, at San Rafael Fire Station #51, 1039 C Street.
