San Rafael Man Arrested After High Speed Chase on 101

Marin County sheriff's deputies arrested a local man after reports that he chased two women down Highway 101.

arrested a 44-year-old San Rafael man after a fight turned into a vehicle chase down Highway 101 on June 11, according to Lt. Barry Heying.

Joseph Aaron Defenbaugh was booked in yesterday on charges of domestic violence, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of methamphetamine.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on June 11, a woman told deputies that she and her adult daughter fled their home on Grande Paseo in Marinwood after a run in with Defenbaugh.

Following the confrontation, Defenbaugh pursued the women southbound on Highway 101 in a tan Toyota pick-up truck. He rammed into their gray Pontiac three times as they drove at approximately 85 mph between Marinwood and the Merrydale exit, according to Heying.

The women lost sight of Defenbaugh around the Lincoln exit. No injuries were reported.

Defenbaugh was arrested the next day around Cedarberry Drive without incident. His bail is set at $50,000.
