Update: Firefighters Rescue Trapped Driver from Car Accident

A vehicle hit a Golden Gate Transit bus and turned on its side near the Manuel T. Freitas Parkway exit.

A Novato woman was transported to the hospital after colliding with a Golden Gate Transit bus and striking a gaurdrail on Highway 101 this morning, according to authorities.

At about 11:36 a.m., 49-year-old Ana Alvarez was changing lanes northbound on Highway 101 near the Manuel T. Freitas Parkway exit when a Golden Gate Transit bus impacted the rear of her car, according to to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Eric Hohmeister. Alvarez's Ford Focus drove 15 feet off the east side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, and then overturned onto the driver’s side, he said.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Firefighters extracted Alvarez from the car and transported her to after she complained of pain in her right arm and shoulder.

There were 10 passengers on board the bus at the time of the collision. None were injured, according to Hohmeister.
