San Rafael firefighters this afternoon made
quick work of a vegetation fire at an encampment likely sparked by a barbecue,
Fire Chief Chris Gray said.
Firefighters under Battalion Chief Paul Crimmins’ command responded a report of the fire at about 2:30 p.m. in some open space on a parcel just east of the 2900 block of Kerner Boulevard, Gray said.
The blaze was confined to a quarter of an acre, Gray said. No injuries were reported.
Nine firefighters responded to the incident, Gray said. They were assisted by the San Rafael Police Department.
The city is involved in an ongoing effort to work with property owners to address encampments “to help ensure safety throughout the community,” Gray said.
Anyone witnessing suspicious activity is asked to report it to the San Rafael Police Department at (415) 485-3040 or the San Rafael Fire Department (415) 485-3304.
