Police Arrest Sword-Swinging Suspect

A man was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a sword and demanding money from an acquaintance.

A 49-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly brandished a sword at an acquaintance on Sunday, police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

Mark Leroy Sparks was booked in on two felony charges of attempted robbery and making threats, as well as a misdemeanor charge exhibiting a deadly weapon. His bail is $75,000.

At around 11:50a.m. on Sunday on the 800 block of East Francisco Boulevard, Sparks allegedly showed his sword to a 24-year-old man from Marin City and demanded money. The man, who knew Sparks, fled and reported the incident to the police.

Officers found Sparks riding a bike in the area. The bike was towing a trailer that contained the sword, Rohrbacher said.
