Man Injured in Parking Lot Attempted Robbery

A man was transported to the hospital after another man allegedly hit him in the head with a steering wheel club.

San Rafael police arrested a local man after he allegedly hit someone in the head with a steering wheel club, police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

Guillermo Santos Estrada, 33, was booked in Saturday on charges of attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and driving without a license. His bail is set at $75,000.

Estrada, along with two other men, approached a group of people in the parking lot of 50 Larkspur St. at 2:30a.m. on Saturday. Estrada was holding the steering wheel club and demanded money, according to Rohrbacher.

Estrada allegedly hit one of the men in the head with the club and then fled in a car with his two companions. Police officers located their car on Smith Ranch Road and arrested Estrada on suspicion of the assault and attempted robbery. The other two in the car were arrested; one for an outstanding warrant and the other for public intoxication and violation of probation.

The victim, a 22-year-old man from San Rafael, suffered severe injuries and was transported to , Rohrbacher said.
