Richmond Woman Arrested in Alleged Prostitution Case

Suspected of being pimp for 14 year old.

San Rafael Police say they arrested an 18-year-old Richmond woman who they believe was the pimp for a 14-year-old girl in the Canal area.

The suspect wad identified as Tia Trashae Powell. She was arrested after police said they observed the Richmond girl working as a prostitute on Canal Street at about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

"An officer saw Powell walking by several times and discovered that Powell and the girl had been exchanging text messages about prostitution on their cell phones," said Margo Rohrbacher, San Rafael Police spokeswoman.

"It was obvious the 18-year-old was the girl's pimp," Rohrbacher said. The girl, also from Richmond, was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of loitering for prostitution and being a runaway.

Powell is being held in Marin County Jail on suspicion of pandering in lieu  of $30,000 bail.
