Report: San Rafael Meth Dealer Gets 12 Years

Jesse James Starr was arrested by Marin County's Major Crimes Task Force and prosecuted in federal court

A convicted San Rafael methamphetamine dealer was sentenced on Monday to just short of 12 years in prison, the Marin Independent Journal reports.

Jesse James Starr, 40, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, the report said.

Starr’s arrest earlier this year came after a frantic effort to elude authorities, the report said.

Starr was in a car with another suspect, Carlos Sylvan Clothier during a drug transaction, when authorities tried to contact him on March 27, the report said.

Starr, who was on parole at the time, tried to get away by driving in reverse at speeds up to 40 mph, the report said. The Marin Major Crimes Task Force arrested him.

Authorities at the time of Starr’s arrest found three ounces of meth, 26 Oxycontin pills, psychedelic mushrooms and about $1,000 in cash along with a scale and drug packaging material, the report said.

Marin County prosecutors dropped their case against Starr, clearing the way for a federal case that resulted in an 11-year, 10-month sentence, the report said.
