Police Probe San Rafael Blaze

No injuries or property damage were reported after firefighters quickly contained a fire that burned a 60,000-square-foot patch of dry brush Saturday afternoon on an unusually hot and dry day.

San Rafael firefighters on Saturday afternoon quickly contained a brush fire that threatened a nearby structure, a fire department spokesman said.

Firefighters arrived on the scene of the blaze near the rear of the old Glass and Sash building at 240 Francisco Boulevard shortly after it was reported at 4:00 p.m., Christopher Gray said.

The fire has burned an estimated 6,000-square-foot patch of brush, Gray said.

Two engines responded to the blaze, Gray said.

No injuries or property damage were reported.

San Rafael Police investigators interviewed a person observed near the scene of the blaze at the time initial reports of the fire first came in, Gray said.

The San Rafael Fire Department asks that the public be extra careful throughout what's expected to be a severe fire season, especially amid the high temperatures and low humidity that Saturday's blaze occurred.
