Police Investigating Shots Fired in San Rafael

San Rafael Police officials said no one appeared to have been injured after two shots were fired in the city's canal neighborhood, in what seems to be the city's fourth shooting since November.

San Rafael Police officials are investigating a Saturday afternoon incident involving two shots fired and anywhere from two to five males.

San Rafael Police Sgt. Roy Leon said multiple callers reported hearing gunshots at 1:33 p.m. near Playa de Ray and Vista del Mar, in San Rafael’s canal neighborhood.

“One witness reported seeing a subject with a handgun,” Leon said.

Officers spent more than an hour searching the area, but they didn’t find any victims, suspects or evidence, Leon said.

Witnesses said the men were all in their early 20s and wearing dark clothing.

The Saturday incident was the fourth shooting that’s occurred in San Rafael since November.

A man was shot and wounded at the busy San Rafael Transit Center on Dec. 14, when there were an estimated 200 young people in the area. The shooting suspect was identified the next day.

Two people were injured in a shooting outside Club 101 on Nov. 23, where a physical altercation among patrons started inside the nightclub and spilled out into the club’s parking lot.

Earlier in November, two suspects were arrested in connection to a Nov. 13 gang-related downtown San Rafael shooting, when a man was shot in the back near the intersection of Fourth Street and Tamalpais Avenue.
