Police Investigate Knight Drive Gun Dispute

Police answered reports of a dispute on Knight Drive that involved two men and a gun.

A San Rafael man was arrested in Santa Rosa Friday evening, suspected of assaulting another man and taking his truck to Santa Rosa where he stabbed another victim and brandished a shotgun while searching an apartment there, Santa Rosa police said.

San Rafael police informed Santa Rosa police at 5:12 p.m. that the suspect, identified as James Christian, 66, was believed to be on his way to Santa Rosa looking for someone he was unhappy with, Santa Rosa police said.

Officers in San Rafael had contacted another 66-year-old man at 47 Knight Drive shortly before 4 p.m. who claimed Christian had assaulted him and taken his truck, according to Santa Rosa police.

Shortly after receiving the report from San Rafael, Santa Rosa police learned of a stabbing in the 1100 block of Prospect Avenue.

Police found two teenagers there who said they had encountered Christian as he pulled up and got out of the truck holding a shotgun and a knife.

There was a brief confrontation between Christian and one of the teenagers before Christian stabbed the 19-year-old man in the chest, police said. Christian also suffered a cut on his hand during the confrontation.

The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

After that, Christian entered an apartment on that block, still carrying a shotgun and a knife, and searched the apartment looking for a particular female resident that wasn't home, police said.

Christian was still in the apartment when police arrived, and when he left police there ordered him to put down his weapons and he complied. He was arrested and taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

After his release from the hospital, Christian was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Search warrants were served both on the apartment Christian was searching and at his residence in San Rafael.

Anyone with information about this case has been asked to call Santa Rosa police at (707) 543-3590.
