Police Blotter: Shoplifting Suspect Accused of Grand Theft

Stopped with $667.14 in merchandise.

It seemed like a a good idea

Loss-prevention workers alerted San Rafael Police after stopping a woman with $667.14 of clothing at Macy's in Northgate at 3:35 p.m. on July 3. Police said the suspect told them she thought she could get away with it. Antonia Lopez Saquic, 26, of San Rafael was booked on grand theft allegations.

A man told police on June 30 that he had been standing in front of his apartment at Bahia Way and Kerner Boulevard at about 7:20 p.m. when two unknown suspects walked up and fired a gun at him. The victim was taken to Marin General Hospital with major injuries. Police are seeking suspects on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 2000 red Ford Mustang was reported missing from the 1400-block of Mission Avenue on June 29. The car could have been stolen some time during the prior two weeks. It was entered into the stolen vehicle system.

Be wary of lock boxes

On June 29, a victim reported that her 1994 beige Nissan Sentra was taken from her parking stall on the 300 block of Mission Avenue in San Rafael. She said she had the set of keys but a spare was in a lock box attached to the rear bumper. The car was entered into the stolen vehicle system.

Grand theft at retirement community

A resident of Aegis of San Rafael on Merrydale Road told police on June 22 that $40,000 had been taken from his room. The victim's son said he had seen a large roll of money in his father's pocket and said he had three other wads. Police do not know how much was taken in total.

Car theft at popular market

A 1990 white Honda Accord parked in the lot at Mi Pueblo 330 Bellam Blvd. while the owner shopped on June 21 was gone when he returned with his groceries at about 5 p.m. The victim said all of the windows had been closed and the car was locked. The car had damage to the left front quarter panel. An officer referred the case to the stolen vehicle system.

And in front of a business

On  June 22, a 1982 blue Toyota pick up was stolen at a business at 17 Lovell Ave., between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Also missing was the two-ton orange cherry picker that was in the back of the truck. The victim said all keys were accounted for.

Attempted burglary at residence

A suspect removed screen from a victim's bedroom window at the Valencia Avenue Apartments at 14 Valencia Ave. on June 25. The victim confronted the suspect and he left through the same window and ran away. The suspect was described as a a white male, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 with a medium build. He spoke to victim with a notable accent. He was wearing gray t-shirt and gray pants, possibly sweat pants.

 

Second-degree auto burglary

A 2000 white Honda Civic that had been dropped off after hours at Bellam Auto Repair at 22 Bellam Blvd. was burglarized some time over the night of June 25. The suspect deactivated the car's battery and pried down the window. The thief made off with an iPod, a large Maglite flashlight, a Bluetooth, phone chargers and iPod stereo cord.
