Officer Suffers Minor Injuries in Crash

A police car rear-ended a vehicle that was backing out of driveway where there were reports of as many as 10 people throwing bottles at a car, police said.

A officer suffered minor injuries in a crash in the city early Saturday morning.

Police responded to reports of as many as 10 people throwing bottles at a vehicle in the 400 block of Canal Street at about 1:50 a.m., according to the San Rafael Police Department.

One officer was driving to the scene when a vehicle backed out of a driveway in front of the patrol car near 555 Francisco Boulevard East, police said. The officer was unable to avoid the vehicle and crashed into the rear end of it, police said.

The officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The damaged vehicle was found abandoned a short distance away on Harbor Street, police said.

The driver and one passenger were found walking away from the vehicle and were detained by police. The driver was apparently driving without a license or proper

The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office responded to the original disturbance call and were unable to locate any subjects.
