Multiple Arrests from DUI Checkpoint on Friday Night

Two "Avoid the Marin 13" DUI checkpoints were held in San Rafael Friday night, which resulted in one DUI arrest and various other arrests, San Rafael police said this morning.

The first checkpoint that started at 6 p.m. and continued until 9:30 p.m. was at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Francisco Boulevard East. A second stop ran from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. this morning at the intersection of Irwin Street and Fifth Avenue.

A total of 1,888 vehicles were screened at the two checkpoints throughout the night. One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

Another driver was arrested on suspicion of having a suspended license and 16 unlicensed drivers were cited and released. One person was arrested on suspicion of an outstanding felony warrant, according to police.

The "Avoid" Winter Holiday campaign will continue through Jan. 2 and includes 13 law enforcement agencies throughout Marin County.
