Motorist Killed in Stinson Cliff Plunge ID'd

Joshua Glen Stewart of Arbuckle and Vallejo was 26.

The Marin County coroner's office on Tuesday identified the motorist who was killed last week when according to authorities his car went off a cliff on state Highway 1 south of Stinson Beach as Joshua Glen Stewart, 26 of Arbuckle and Vallejo.

The coroner's office declined to provide any further information about the case, citing an ongoing investigation.

Stewart was driving a red Honda Accord that had been reported stolen out of Vallejo at the time of the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP received reports of a vehicle off the road south of Rocky Point Road in Marin County shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to CHP Officer Andrew Barclay.

Officers arriving at the scene found the vehicle around 200 feet down a cliff with major damage, Barclay said.

Stewart, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was located and pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators determined the car had been reported stolen out of Vallejo. They are still working to identify the driver.

A Sonoma County Sheriff's Office helicopter was used to remove his body due to the steep terrain, Barclay said. State Highway 1 was closed in both directions until around 7 p.m. by the crash.
