Mother and Son in Same Vehicle Arrested for DUI

The San Rafael residents were found passed out in a Range Rover. And that's just the beginning of the story.

A San Rafael woman and her son were arrested on suspicion of DUI in Marin County on Tuesday, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The CHP was informed that the occupants of a blue Range Rover on northbound U.S. Highway 101 between East Blithedale Avenue in Tiburon and Paradise Drive in Corte Madera appeared to be passed out and the vehicle couldn't stay in its lane, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.

The driver, Lucilla Schneider, 68, of San Rafael, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after the CHP stopped the Range Rover on Highway 101 just south of the Paradise Drive exit, Barclay said.

While she was taking field sobriety tests near the CHP patrol car, her son, 46-year-old John Dullea of San Rafael, moved from the passenger seat of the Range Rover to the driver's seat, Barclay said.

The officer tried to open the locked passenger door but Dullea shifted the Range Rover into drive and drove away, Barclay said.

The CHP officer informed dispatch about the fleeing Range Rover and several CHP cars and a helicopter located the vehicle in stopped traffic on the exit lane from northbound Highway 101 to Bellam Boulevard in San Rafael, Barclay said.

CHP officers boxed in the Range Rover when traffic cleared and detained Dullea, who was determined to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Barclay said.

Dullea was arrested on suspicion of DUI and resisting or obstructing an officer.
